Samsung and LG Electronics post earnings surprise in Q3

Earnings guidances for South Korean tech giants Samsung and LG Electronics are out and both predict outstanding performances in the third quarter of this year that beat market expectations.
Samsung expects to post an operating profit of roughly 10-point-6 billion dollars - up nearly 60 percent from a year ago and LG, a record third quarter earnings.

Samsung Electronics, in its guidance for the third quarter, has reported its largest operating profit in two years.
According to the company's earnings guidance on Thursday, it expects to make more than 10-point-six billion U.S. dollars in operating profit for the July to September period.
That's a whopping 58 percent jump from what it posted during the same period last year.
"Samsung Electronics also forecast its third quarter sales to reach an all-time high 57 billion dollars. Analysts say, solid global sales of Samsung’s home appliances and the latest smartphone series were behind the strong earnings."
"The company's improved semiconductor business performance, strong sales of premium products and enhanced marketing strategies for smartphones and TVs might have helped Samsung post such high earnings."
He added that sales of smartphones, TVs and home appliance sales rose sharply as supressed demand came back.
Analysts also say the new U.S. sanctions on Chinese tech giant Huawei have benefited Samsung in terms of semiconductors sales... because Huawei placed urgent orders with Samsung for DRAM and NAND Flash before the sanctions took effect.
LG Electronics also expects to post an earnings surprise,... with its highest ever third-quarter operating profit and sales.
LG's estimated operating profit came to about 831 million dollars for the July to September period,... up 22-point-7 percent from the same period last year.
"TV and home appliance sales online have increased... because people are working from home and spending more time in the house."
He also said that Samsung and LG Electronics have both saved on marketing costs because they're not doing as much promotion for their brick-and-mortar stores.
