Hong Kong deploys 6,000 police officers to deter protests on China's National Day

Scores of riot police patrolled Hong Kong on October 1, 2020, after calls were made online for anti-government protests as the city marked the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The authorities deployed some 6,000 officers, and there were more police than protesters on the streets by the afternoon of National Day.
