Cops make largest maritime bust of marijuana in Spanish history
  • 4 years ago
This is the moment Spanish authorities seize several tonnes of hash from six vessels including three sailing under the British flag, with the amount seized making it the largest maritime drug bust of hash in the country's history. The bust was dubbed the Goleta-Gratil Operation and was carried out by the Spanish National Police and the Tax Agency over months, but the largest busts have just now happened between 24th and 28th September. Authorities were first alerted on the possible existence of the crime group when they saw the sailboat ‘Amaalta’ at the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia which they suspected of drug trafficking in October of last year. They started tracking the boat as well as several others which they thought were associated with the group resulting in the historic busts which included four "patrol boats, one helicopter and an aeroplane” and found over 34 tonnes (74,957,164 lbs) of hash, according to a police report. The investigations lead cops to seize sailboats ‘Hanna’ with 360 kg (793 lbs) of hash and a UK flag and the ‘Phase One’, which contained 4,244 kg (9,356 lbs) of hash and a Dutch flag on 14th July and 26th March respectively. However, their largest busts have just occurred during their most recent operation in which four luxury sailboats were confiscated along with several tonnes of the drug.
