In his message Tuesday on the day Christian Churches mark the "World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation", he stressed that the time to fix the climate emergency is running out.
He called on the need to continue to fight global warming, according to the 2015 Paris climate accord.
The Pope's message comes as the World Meteorological Organization announced this year's summer had major impact on ice shelves and glaciers.
It said the summer of 2020 was marked by many record-high temperatures, and warned that the consequences of a warming Arctic will be far-reaching across the northern hemisphere.
