EU "벨라루스 대선 결과 인정 못해…곧 제재 부과"

It's time now for our Thursday's edition of Arirang's 'The World Now'. I'm Kim Jae-hee.
Let's begin with some updates on the evolving situation in Belarus.
The European Union on Wednesday rejected the results of Belarus' controversial election...
that handed President Alexander Lukashenko his sixth term with over 80 percent of the vote.
EU leaders also expressed their full support for the people of Belarus, and announced financial sanctions against people linked to election fraud and the abuse of protesters.
"The European Union stands in solidarity with the people of Belarus, and we don't accept impunity. On August 9th, Belarus held elections. These elections were neither free nor fair, and did not meet international standards."
"The European Commission will mobilize now an additional 53 million euros to support the Belarusian people in these challenging times."
This comes after protesters once again gathered on Wednesday, defying the order from Lukashenko to his police to clear the streets of Minsk.
Belarus's long-term leader dubbed by some as Europe's "last dictator" was declared the winner in the August 9th election, but the results have been dismissed as fraudulent by the opposition.
