President Moon vows "victim-centered" approach to resolve sex slave issue

President Moon Jae-in has vowed to restore the dignity and honor of the Korean victims of Japan's wartime sexual slavery,... stressing the importance of a "victim centered solution."
He was speaking earlier today in a video message to mark International Memorial Day for Comfort Women.
The government will do its best to map out realistic and practical methods so the victims' courage and dedication can be repaid with the restoration of their dignity and honor. The most important principle is a "victim-centered" approach. The government will continue to seek a solution that the victims can accept."
An event was held in Cheonan, the third of its kind,... after the government designated the day as a national memorial day in 2017.
President Moon thanked the victims for their courage to come forward calling them living history who have been fighting for women's rights and peace.
He also noted that on this day 29 years ago,... the late Kim Hak-sun , a former victim, first publicly testified about Japan operating an organized system of military brothels during the Second World War.
President Moon vowed to take care of the 17 Korean victims who are still alive.
The president said the victims have presented a new direction that is for the future generations of South Koreans and Japanese to seek a path toward peace and human rights,... while upholding the accomplishments made so far.
