영국, 비만과의 전쟁…존슨 총리 "나도 살 뺐다"

Good morning to our viewers across the globe, you're watching Arirang's 'The World Now'. I'm Kim Jae-hee.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is urging the British public to shed some kilos.
He said he would encourage people to lose weight over the next few months, in order to reduce their risk from COVID-19 and to prepare for a possible second wave.
"The reality is that obesity is one of the real comorbidity factors. Losing weight is, frankly, one of the ways that you can reduce your own risks from COVID, and actually it's one of the ways you can generally improve your health and protect the NHS."
Jonhson's experience in intensive care during his treatment for COVID-19 is suspected to have contributed to his thoughts.
The Prime Minister said that he has lost over 6 kilograms since he was admitted to intensive care with COVID-19, primarily by eating less but also through lots of exercise.
His remarks that losing weight reduces risks are also supported by growing evidence, a report by Public Health England showed on Saturday that people who are overweight are at increased risk of death or severe illness if they contract COVID-19.
According to British media outlets, the British government is preparing to release an anti-obesity strategy, including a ban on TV ads for junk food.
