Retired athlete rescues fisherman who fell into river in northern China

A retired athlete rescued a fisherman using his paddleboard who fell into the Yellow River in northern China.

At 4 p.m. on July 22, Zhengzhou, Henan, near the Taohuayu Bridge on the Xingyang section of the Yellow River. A fisherman stumbled and fell into the Yellow River.

The man is seen struggling in the water, barely showing his head and calling for help. On the bank of the river, a young man knelt on a paddleboard began moving towards him in an attempt to rescue him.

The retired athlete first turned the bottom of the paddleboard upside down and then grabbed both arms of the fisherman to the edge of the paddleboard.

The fisherman was able to get on the paddleboard, and then the young man got on the paddleboard again and paddled them both to shore.

The rescuer Ma Chenglong in the video, 21, turned out to be a professional kayaker in Henan Province. He retired five years ago due to an injury and is currently working at Zhengzhou Feifan Water Sports Club.
