The U.S. State Department says Washington supports inter-Korean cooperation and is in coordination with Seoul to ensure such projects proceed in lockstep with progress on the regime's denuclearization.
The comment comes just a day after South Korea's unification ministry said it does not see long-time sanctions on North Korea as a hindrance to inter-Korean exchanges.
On Wednesday, Seoul pointed to the inefficacies of the so-called May-24 measures,... just days before the 10th anniversary of the sweeping penalties Seoul imposed on Pyeongyang.
They came after it was widely thought the North torpedoed the South Korean warship Cheonan, killing 46 sailors.
The measures in 2010 were regarded as a hurdle for inter-Korean exchanges though many of the restrictions were already included in multiple international sanctions.
