U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has warned of the treat of a prolonged recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a virtual meeting with Washington-based think tank, the Peterson Institute for International Economics on Wednesday,... Powell stressed the scope and speed of this downturn are unprecedented,... significantly worse than any recession since the Second World War.
He added the Fed is prepared to take further steps beyond the extraordinary measures it has already taken.
However, he again dismissed the possibility of lowering interest rates into negative territory despite continued pressure from President Trump to do so.
