COVID-19 has become the third leading cause of death in the U.S. just a month after cases started surging there.
Health experts say that currently more than 700 people are dying from the virus each day.
Heart-related illnesses cause the most deaths in the U.S., killing more than 1-thousand-700 people a day. Cancer is second with around 1-thousand-600 deaths a day.
On March 26, more than 1-thousand people died of coronavirus in the U.S. in a single day.
The Coronavirus Resource Center in Johns Hopkins University shows the death toll has now surpassed 5-thousand-100.
And the number of confirmed cases is currently over 216-thousand, after jumping from 10-thousand to over two-hundred thousand in just 13 days.
Now the U.S. has one fifth of all COVID-19 cases in the world.
And almost 90 percent of all Americans are under lockdown as state governors have ordered people to self-quarantine.
One of the country's biggest tourism spots, the Grand Canyon National Park was temporarily shut down on Monday.
The park announced that it prioritizes the health and safety of all visitors, employees, residents, and volunteers,... and has been advised by the government to follow federal health guidelines.
The decision comes as tourists kept visiting the park despite the fast spread of the virus.
Other national parks such as the Yellowstone and Joshua Tree had already been shut down.
