National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang kicks off parliamentary diplomacy in Japan
  • 4 years ago
South Korea's National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang has started his schedule at the G20 Speakers' Summit in Japan amid strained ties between Seoul and Tokyo.
Starting around an hour ago, Moon began his keynote address on promoting free and fair trade and investment, where he indirectly called out Japan's unjust trade regulations against South Korea.
The meeting has been presided by Akiko Santo, Japan's President of House of Councilors, who refused to sit down with Moon, over the Korean speaker's remarks demanding an apology for Japan's wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
Moon will wrap up his stay in Japan with a lecture on Tuesday at a local university on ways to restore relations between the two countries.
