The UK parliament has voted to hold a general election on December 12... backing Prime Minister Boris Johnson's proposal as a way of breaking the Brexit impasse.
The election was approved easily on Tuesday in a vote of 438 to 20.
Once parliament is dissolved next week, the parties will start their campaigns, which will be dominated by Brexit.
The EU has granted Britain three more months to ratify a deal on leaving the bloc, meaning lawmakers in the next parliament will have until January 31st to do so.
Boris Johnson will be looking to strengthen his mandate to do Brexit the way he wants.
