Use of personal phones in the military has reduced crime: Study
  • 5 years ago
Since South Korea started allowing the use of personal cell phones in the military earlier this year, the number of soldiers deserting and committing sex crimes has declined.
Researchers at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses... have found desertions are down 11 percent and sex crimes by 32 percent.
The study also found that soldiers feel communication has improved greatly.
Those who said they had good communication with the outside rose from 66 percent... to 97 percent.
Those who said communication within the military was good... rose from 57 to 84 percent.
However, the military is thinking about adding more security measures... because there have been side effects, such as gambling and security violations.
