Samsung Display to invest US$ 10.9 bil. for QD-OLED display production
  • 5 years ago
Samsung Display is said to invest almost 11 billion U.S. dollars to build manufacturing lines for Quantum Dot OLED displays as it looks to accelerate the shift to the next generation of display screens.
Quantum dots are tiny semiconductor crystals that enable the conversion of blue LED light to red and green to create full-color displays with higher energy efficiency and a wider color range than LCD-based products.
Industry sources say the firm will likely officially announce the investment plans next month.
Due to falling margins in the LCD sector on fiercer global competition, it has long been forecast Samsung would make the move to the QD-OLED sector.
