Mendez on NBI chief post: Not an easy job

NBI Deputy Director for Regional Operations Virgilio Mendez has been appointed as the new chief of the agency. He succeeds former NBI chief Nonnatus Rojas who resigned in September last year following reports that several of his subordinates have "tipped off" alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Napoles about her arrest warrant, allowing her to evade arrest. Justice Secretary Leila de Lima earlier vouched for the integrity of Mendez and rejected his offer of resignation, saying he was not one of the deputy directors who cannot be trusted. According to Mendez, he knows that being the director of the NBI is not an easy job but he vowed to do everything he can to fulfill his duties. ANC Dateline Philippines, January 16, 2014
