A large bomb and gun attack hit Kabul on Sunday as the first day of Afghanistan's presidential campaign began.
The attacks were aimed at the office of the vice-presidential candidate and former intelligence chief, Amrullah Saleh.
Officials said at least two people were killed and at least 25 more were injured.
Shortly after the blast, gunmen exchanged fire with security forces in a building belonging to Saleh's Afghan Green Trend Party.
Saleh was wounded but safely evacuated from the office.
The attacks are presumed to have been conducted by either Taliban insurgents or the Islamic State group that oppose the election.
