A deadly fire that broke out Monday on a Russian navy research submarine has killed 14 crew members onboard.
Russia's Defense Ministry gave no details about the vessel involved on Tuesday or how many crew were onboard at the time, but Russian media reported it was a nuclear-powered submarine designed for sensitive missions at great depths.
After the blaze was extinguished, the vessel was moved to the main base of the Russian Northern Fleet for further investigation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called an emergency meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, expressed his condolences to the victims' families.
