Blue House optimistic on Korea's employment situation

Things haven't been easy for job seekers in Korea, but the presidential office has a positive outlook on the employment front.
The Blue House said Sunday that the employment situation is improving compared to last year.
And the presidential secretary for job creation... called for swift passage of the government's extra budget bill to keep that momentum going.
Here's the Secretary.
"The situation looks difficult, but it's also hopeful. Behind this hope are the government's policies bearing fruit. I ask the National Assembly to swiftly pass the supplementary budget bill,... because it is sure to help improve employment conditions."
The jobless rate did in fact fall in March by two-tenths of a percentage point on-year, and the number of employed totaled some 26-point-8-million,... an increase on-year of 250-thousand.
The secretary attributed these improvements to the field of new technology, namely the ICT sector and the fourth industrial revolution.
But he added that the overall jobs situation is being dragged down... by a drop in the number of self-employed and in the manufacturing sector.
That, he said, will be taken into consideration in future policies.
