Trump Administration
Decides on 6 Month
Delay for Auto Tariffs The decision was announced
in light of trade talks between
the U.S., Japan and the E.U. The administration had until
Saturday to decide whether it
would implement tariffs
on auto imports. President Donald Trump
could cite national security
as a reason for auto import duties. EU Trade Commissioner
Cecilia Malmstrom stated the
E.U. "completely" rejects "the notion that
our car exports are a national security threat.” The E.U. is prepared to
institute its own tariffs on
U.S. goods depending on
the outcome of trade talks. Expanding the global
trade war could do harm
to the U.S. economy. U.S. Trade Representative
Robert Lighthizer will lead
the trade talks with Japan and the E.U.
