May heat continues for upper areas, rain in store for south and Jeju
  • 5 years ago
Let's start with the unseasonably hot weather we are enduring in South Korea.
A searing early summer heat wave gripped most areas on Thursday.
Seoul and its surrounding area will have another hot one today.
Let's jump straight over to our weather center where we have out Lee Jee-hyun standing by.
Jee-hyun, it isn't terribly unusual to have very warm weather in May, but we rarely see sustained periods at over 30 degrees Celsius like we have been doing....
Good morning, Mark. Indeed, the May heat only came 2 to 3 days earlier than an average year, but we do sometimes see early heatwaves around this time of the year...but it surely felt nothing like May for last the couple days...some areas including Anseong in Gyeonggi-do Province saw the mercury approach 33 degrees Celsuis.
It will be as hot for most of upper areas but readings will get cool in the south as a band of rain moves north.
Southern provinces and Jeju Island will get good amount of rain.. starting from Jeju this afternoon. Central regions however will have another dry and sunny Friday.
Moving on to today's temperatures, a lot more bearable this morning..in the upper teens for most areas.
Daily highs will range between 25 and 30 degrees. Lots of clouds coverage for southern areas today.
It will be hot weekend but not as hot as the past couple of days with highs in the upper twenties then some much needed rain is in store next Monday.
That's all the weather update for now.
