Koreans celebrate Buddha's 2,563rd birthday

Today, according to the lunar calendar, Koreans celebrate Buddha's birthday.
This year, to be exact, the 2-thousand 5-hundred and sixty-third anniversary of his birth.
It was designated a national holiday in 1975.
To celebrate, some 10,000 people, including some high-profile dignitaries, attended services this morning at Jogyesa temple in downtown Seoul.
Rituals include making lotus laterns and pouring perfume on statues of the Buddha.
Celebrations are being held at around twenty-thousand temples across the country.
