S. Korea celebrates 125th anniversary of Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894

Now, for the first time,... the South Korean government held an event to commemorate the 125th anniversary... of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894.
The Donghak Peasant Revolution was an armed rebellion against the corrupt government of Joseon,... led by peasants and followers of Korea's indegenous Donghak religion,... now called Cheondo-gyo .
Around 1-thousand people including the descendents of the Donghak peasants, followers of Cheondo-gyo and citizens... gathered at Seoul's Gwanghwamun square on Saturday.
Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon attended the event and stressed that the Donghak Peasant Revolution... was equally significant to modern revolutions in Western Europe.
He added,... that it was also similar to the candlelight protests in 2016,... in showing that ordinary citizens... can remove authorities who abuse their power.
