The ruling Democratic Party has elected three-term lawmaker Lee In-young as its new floor leader.
In a run off on Wednesday,... he won 76 out of 125 votes.
Lee is a former student activist... who in the campaign promoted his aspirations for change and reform of the party.
Here he is after winning today.
"Through unity and integration, I will lead the party to victory in next year's general elections. I also face the difficult task of getting parliament running again. I will listen to every one of our fellow lawmakers to score a winning goal."
Lee will replace Hong Yong-pyo and will take the helm for the next year.
He will be tasked first and foremost with mending ties with the main opposition Liberty Korea Party -- ties that soured after key bills were fast-tracked last week.
Normalizing parliament will be a must to deal with a stack of pending bills related to economic revitalization,.... as well as the government's extra budget proposal.
He will also have to work with the party's chair to coordinate strategies to steer the party to victory in the 2020 general elections,... as well as to back up the Moon Jae-in administration's policy goals.
