서울에 남아있는 유일한 한국의 전통정원 성락원 일반에 공개

The only traditional garden left in Seoul, Seongnagwon,... is now open to public.
Since being created some 2 centuries ago, the area was off limits and was often referred to as a 'secret garden'.
Lee Min-sun takes us there. At the foot of Bukhansan mountain in Seoul, a special garden awaits visitors after some 200 years of seclusion.
Seongnagwon garden, which means 'enjoying the beauty of nature outside the city' is the only traditional garden remaining in Seoul.
"The garden makes the most of its natural features such as its bedrocks and stream, with minimal human interference."
Each space divided by the topography incorporates both natural and man-made features.
One such place located in the inner garden section is Yeongbyeokji, a natural pond with artificial features. Here, a rock is engraved with words by renowned calligraphist Kim Jeong-hui from the Joseon Dynasty.
"The traditional garden's main characteristic is that the human aspects are in harmony with nature... not trying to overcome or change nature, but rather being embraced by it."
As the garden is one of the rare places in Seoul that still has well-preserved scenery, it was designated as national scenic place. Since the designation as cultural heritage, the government has made efforts to restore the garden to its original appearance.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Furniture Museum, which manages the garden, have opened the place to the public until June to share the value of the only traditional garden left in Seoul.
The government is making final restoration plans and when that work is completed, the garden will open to the public again, this time fully.
