Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon says South Korea has made great strides in science and technology.
That includes successfully launching the world's first 5G network service.
He made the remarks at an event commemorating Science, Information and Communication Day.
"Now we must make the world's best achievements. Let's create new standards for ICT and products and services of world-class quality."
The PM also called on experts to solve social issues, including fine dust and climate change through technology.
Lee vowed to implement a regulatory sandbox and increase funding to more than two billion U.S. dollars by 2022... to better support research.
Around 120 people were recognized for their contribution to advancing the country at the event.
