Park Geun-hye requests for release because of "burning pain"

Former president Park Geun-hye, jailed for abuse of power and corruption, has asked to be released because of a medical condition she says is causing extreme physical pain.
Her attorney filed a petition at the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday.
The petition says Park is unable to sleep because of pain caused by her cervical and lumbar discs and that she needs medical treatment.
Park has been behind bars since March 2017 and was sentenced to two years in prison for influence peddling.
That sentence ended yesterday, but she still has to serve another two years for interfering in candidate nominations.
The law lets prosecutors suspend sentences for convicts suffering from serious illness.
The prosecution is expected to decide after deliberating in a committee.
