The warranty on smartphones in South Korea will be doubled to two years starting next year.
Following changes to the Fair Trade Commission's standard for consumer dispute guidelines, …the warranty period for devices sold from 2020 will be raised from the current one year.
The one-year warranty on smartphone batteries will stay the same as they are consumable parts.
While the guidelines will not be legally enforced, …the industry has promised to comply…and the corporate watchdog has reportedly finished negotiations with Apple.
The new regulations have also set a standard on the warranty period for tablet PCs for the first time.
They will be covered under warranty for one year, …with parts in stock for four years.
