South Korea's Ministry of Defense says it plans to hold a ministerial-level meeting with China for the first time in over a year-and-a-half in May... as part of efforts to promote communication and normalize relations after a diplomatic row stemming from Seoul's deployment of the U.S. THAAD missile defense system.
During a briefing to the National Defense Committee on Monday, the ministry said it'll also be participating in a repatriation ceremony on April 3rd for Chinese soldiers killed during the Korean War.
South Korea is also having a joint army meeting with Japan this month.
Scheduled for early next month in Washington is a meeting of the Defense Ministers of South Korea and the U.S.
In May, there's a trilateral security meeting between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan... and working-level talks are scheduled.
The ministry says it'll also hold working-level talks with its North Korean counterpart to carry out the joint statement struck in September last year.
The National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee will receive its first government briefing later today.... the first since the Hanoi Summit ended prematurely late last month.
