Kindergartens cancel nationwide postponement of spring semester

Kindergartens that had postponed the start of the spring semester will open their classroom doors on Tuesday.
They were protesting against the government's new regulation on funding allocation... but decided to withdraw from that movement.
Lee Min-sun gets us up to speed with the developments. Kindergartens here in South Korea that staged a nationwide postponement of the spring semester... have decided on Monday to resume classes.
About two-hundred-forty kindergartens had not started the spring semester as scheduled,... in protest against the government's recent move to introduce new regulations.
The new regulations were aimed at preventing private kindergartens from using student fees and government funds inappropriately.
The education ministry had warned of taking legal action against the kindergartens, including criminal charges.
"Delaying the start of a semester is illegal based on relevant laws. I want to remind kindergarten directors that they are educators and should immediately operate normal curriculums."
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education also added presure by announcing it would cancel the licenses of the Korea Kindergarten Association.
Members of the association had been leading the action... to postpone the start of the semester.
Kindergartens said they will resume classes on Tuesday with no condition attached,... but the government authorites plan to continue taking legal steps against the association.
