In the midst of the floods in Chennai, tragedy hit a private hospital in the city. 14 patients in the intensive care unit died at the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) hospital in Chennai allegedly due to power and oxygen failure. The patients were on the ventilator and reportedly died after their oxygen cylinders failed to work. However, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan denied any such incident but added that a probe will be ordered into the case. He said that the patients were in a highly critical state and died over a course of 2-3 days and not because of power failure.
