Tamil Nadu already facing shortage of power: TN government's response to Karnataka government
  • 5 years ago
Karnataka is at the fore in the race for buying power but it seems Tamil Nadu won't help. A day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah admitted to shortage of power, the State finds itself checkmated by neighbour, Tamil Nadu. Karnataka was planning to tap private generators in Tamil Nadu to buy power, but the Tamil Nadu government has invoked Section 11 of the Electricity Act, prohibiting sale of power outside the State. Distraught over the worsening power scenario, the State government wanted to tap Southern Region Generation Sources for 1000 Mw. But no corridor is available to Bengaluru till November. The State has been repeatedly knocking on the doors of the Centre also to facilitate a 'wild card' entry for a corridor. However, with no solution emerging, the State is likely to be haunted by power woes till December.
