NewsX : GJM protests affect the processing of Darjeeling Tea

The demand for a separate Gorkhaland is effecting the business of Darjeeling tea. Although the Tea industry of Darjeeling was exempted from the shutdown in the hills, post production was severely hit as no transportation was being allowed in and out of the region.

The pristine beauty of Darjeeling hills also has its distinct fragrance.
Thanks to these leaves, in the past 150 years Darjeeling has claimed superiority in the World's exotic tea market.
Known as one of the six finest drinks in the world, this classic brew is a luxury in every european household.
But the ongoing agitation for a separate state Gorkhaland has now threatened stocks of Darjeeling tea.
A total shutdown for the past 15 days affected the regular tea trade. With no transportation allowed in or out of the hills, stocks were bound to pile, sadly where its processed.

Also stocks of coal and fuel needed for heating and drying tea, a crucial process that gives tea its aroma were fast diminishing, compounding further worries for tea estates.
