The centre government on Friday gave assent to Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir after the major parties failed to form government in in the state.

J&K Governor NN Vohra had on Thursday recommended President rule in the state after National Conference leader Omar Abdullah stepped down as the caretaker Chief Minister.

Following Abdullah’s request, Vohra suggested governor’s rule in the state.

“Once the Cabinet has taken a decision, the President will also be informed of the decision and he would have the final say on the matter,” said a senior government official.

J&K elections concluded on December 20 with PDP emerging as the single largest party with 28 seats, BJP with 25 seats, National Conference with 15 and Congress 12 seats. If there is no decision on government formation till January 19, then a governor’s rule is imminent.
