India News : Food security bill introduced in Lok Sabha amid protests

NEW DELHI: The food security bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on Wednesday amid uproar with opposition benches protesting against defence minister AK Antony's statement on Indian soldiers killed on the LoC and the Telangana issue.

Food minister KV Thomas introduced the fresh bill after withdrawing an earlier one along with the ordinance which was promulgated on July 5. Moving the National Food Security Bill, 2013, which promises to provide 80 crore people with 5 kg of foodgrains every month at Rs 3, Rs 2 and Re 1 for rice, wheat and coarse grains respectively, Thomas said there is was nothing in it against the states.
