1 The swastika is symbolic of all the directions, Gods and auspicious circumstances.

2 Ganesh Puran states that a swastika is a form of Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles.

3 In one of the hymns in the Rig-Veda, a swastika is noted as symbolic of Surya (Sun).



4 Some of the scholars also suggest that it indicate the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu.

5 People also consider the Swastika as a token denoting plus (+) or prosperity.

6 Religious texts explain that it’s 8 arms are symbolic of the earth, fire, water, air, sky, mind, emotions, and feelings.

7 The four main arms pointing in four directions embodies the four eras – Satyug, Tretayug, Dwaparyug, and Kalyug.



8 These four points also denote 4 ashrams of life – Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanprasth, and Sanyas.

9 The 4 arms with dots represents the four castes – Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras.
