Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, is the God of wisdom and intellect. Devotees seek His blessings before starting any auspicious event as He is known as the remover of obstacles. He is the elephant-headed God riding a mouse. He is also known as Ekadanta as one of his tusks is broken. There are several stories describing how Lord Ganesha broke one of his tusks. Today, let us seek the benevolent Lord’s blessings by recollecting such stories.

1 Lord Ganesha is also known as Ekdanta, which is literally translated as the one who has only one tusk.

2 There are multiple stories that explain the reason to why the Hindu elephant god has only one tusk.

3 According to Brahmanda- Purana, Ganesha resisted from blocking the attack from Parashurama which chopped off his tusk.

4 In another legend, it is stated that Ganesha his tusk himself, during the battle against Gajamukh.

5 Ganesha angrily broke his left tusk and threw it at Chandra Dev, when he made fun of Ganesha.

6 A different story narrates how Ganesha broke his tusk to write down the epic of Mahabharata.
