Lord Rama is the hero of one of the most well known and cherished books of Indian epic called ‘The Ramayana’. His stories have been passed down from generation to generation. Here’s all you need to know about Lord Rama.

1 Lord Rama, also Ramachandra, is the seventh incarnation of the Lord Vishnu and he is considered to be his most important avatar (next to Krishna).
2 His wife, Sita was an incarnation of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi and their love story is believed to be the oldest and most famous of all time.
3 The Hindu scriptures, including the Ramayana claim that Lord Rama was born in the near end of the Treta Yuga. Though the composition of the Ramayana in its current form dates back to the 7th - 4th century BCE.
4 For ages, Lord Rama is referred as Maryada Purushottama, which literally means the perfect man or ideal human. He is someone who has utmost self control and is the master of virtues and righteousness.
5 Lord Rama accepted 14 years in exile along with his wife and brother to fulfill his father's wish.
6 Lord Rama ruled the kingdom of Ayodhya with peace and prosperity for 11,000 years after his coronation, that’s when the Dwapara Yuga started.
7 It is believed that Lord Rama left the earth by taking the Jala Samadhi in the Sarayu River, just when Sita is taken back by her mother Bhoodevi (earth).
8 However, as per mentioned in the Ramayana, Lord Rama returns to his celestial abode, many years later when a messenger from the Gods appears and informs him that the mission of his incarnation was over.
