President Moon Jae-in held a cabinet meeting this morning, where he urged the government to recognize and respond to the nation's fine dust problem as a disaster-like situation, similar to an extremely cold spell or a heat wave.
"Now, it's time to try drastic measures and use our creativity and imagination."

Besides conventional measures such as reducing diesel cars and shutting down coal-fired power plants, President Moon called for the development of new technologies to fight fine dust,... including but not limited to artificial precipitation and high-pressure spray.
He also stressed close cooperation with China to reduce fine dust as well as the importance of communication with the public,... like the planned launch of a special committee on fine dust control in February,... jointly organized by the government and civilians.
The President's message comes about a week after the Seoul was hit by record-high levels of ultrafine dust.
