Report: Trump Expected To Offer Democrats Concessions To End Shutdown In Saturday Announcement

President Trump is expected to make an offer to end the partial government shutdown in his Saturday announcement, reports CNN.
President Trump is reportedly planning to make Democrats an offer to reopen the government in a speech Saturday, reports CNN, citing a senior administration official.
"The official told CNN that Trump's idea is to put something on the table to get Democrats to engage with negotiations," the outlet added. "Trump is not expected to back down from his demand for a border wall, but the plan will seek to entice Democrats by offering other concessions."
The report goes on to say he will likely not declare a national emergency for the wall, as he has threatened to do in the past, but that option is still being discussed.
Trump himself teased his forthcoming remarks, tweeting Friday: "I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse."
The partial shutdown that began on December 22 is now the longest in U.S. history and has left hundreds of thousands of government workers without pay. At issue for Trump is $5.7 billion in funding for the wall along the US-Mexico border.
"Democrats in the newly-elected 116th Congress sworn in this month have refused to meet the president's demands while Trump has threatened to keep the government closed for months or even 'years' to secure the border wall money," notes The Hill.
