S. Korea's defense ministry 'open to dialogue' with Japan to resolve radar dispute

South Korea's defense ministry said it is open to future dialogue with Japan to resolve the radar issue.
A ministry official said Friday that South Korea is willing to participate in further discussions with Japan... that are based on facts as well as understandings of weapons systems and the international law.
The dispute continues to simmer.
On Wednesday, Tokyo's defense ministry summoned a South Korean military attache... and Seoul's defense ministry summoned the Japanese attache the next day.
Late last month,... Japan claimed one of its patrol aircraft was locked on by the targeting radar of a South Korean warship.
South Korea said its warship was on a mission to rescue a North Korean ship and denied using the targeting radar,... rather protesting the Japanese plane's unmannerly low-altitude flight near the ship as a violation of international custom.
