Danger in the air, conditions to improve in the afternoon _ 011519

Good morning. Most of us in Korea have been trapped under a thick layer of toxic smog since yesterday, and we woke up to a smog-choked Korean Peninsula. It comes as no surprise that the season's first fine and ultra fine dust warning still remains in place across much of the country, including Seoul.
An ultra fine dust warning is issued when dust levels reach over 5 times higher than normal levels, and the current levels are the highest recorded. Some welcome news though is that the dust is expected to clear slightly in the afternoon along with colder air blowing in.
Daily highs will be a couple of notches lower than yesterday, Seoul getting up to 2 degrees Celsius, Daegu and Gwangju getting up to 8 degrees.
A huge drop in temperatures will bring fresh air on Wednesday. But we are looking at milder than average temperatures by the end of the week. Let's all hope we don't face another round of toxic air over the Korean peninsula.
