Seoul taxi driver attempts self-immolation in protest against Kakao's carpooling service
  • 5 years ago
A taxi burst into flames in central Seoul on Wednesday evening,... after the driver's apparent self-immolation attempt in protest against a ride-sharing service introduced by the country's largest mobile messenger company, Kakao.
The 64-year-old driver, who's currently suffering from second-degree burns in most of his body,.... is unconscious and being treated at an intensive care unit at a nearby hospital.
Before the fire,.... he's known to have told a colleague that he sees no hope.
Kakao Mobility Corporation introduced a limited version of the carpooling service last month,...but it has delayed the formal launch due to massive protests from taxi drivers.
