Politicos react over SC's verdict on Alok Verma restored as CBI director

The Supreme Court today restored Alok Verma as Central Investigating Bureau (CBI) Director, ending month’s long legal drama. Opposition leaders, while praising SC’s decision, attacked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party as they accused the PM Modi-led government of interfering in the work of the premier investigating agency. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, while welcoming the SC decision, said the top court has “taught a lesson” to the government. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, on the other hand, said the SC has “apparently” strengthened CBI Director’s immunity, while adding that the court has also “devised an accountability mechanism”.
