South Korea's political parties have reached an agreement to reform the country's parliamentary election system to better represent voters' party preferences.
During a press conference on Saturday, the floor leaders of the ruling democratic party, the main opposition Liberty Korea party and three other minor opposition parties said that they will come up with a new proportional representation system in which parliamentary seats are tied to the percentage of voters' support for the parties and that they'll try to pass a related bill next month.
They also agreed to extend the political reform committee's operation past its end of the year deadline to figure out ways to revise the current voting system.
With Saturday's agreement, the leaders of two minor opposition parties ended their nine-day hunger strike.
