President Moon visits Pohang, stresses need for new growth engines

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is continuing a series of trips around the country to boost regional economies.
Today, for his second destination, he went to Pohang, a port city in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, where he stressed that now is the time to find a new growth engine for the country.
He noted that the region has been the country's leading exporter of textiles, electronics, and steel, but stressed that fierce international competition and protectionism recently have made it absolutely necessary for Korea's traditional growth engines to innovate.
He pledged to support Gyeongsangbuk-do Province by enabling local companies, universities and research institutes to work together to prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution,... and also to support the region financially.
While in Pohang, President Moon also visited the fourth generation light source accelerator -- a facility used by researchers to analyze extremely fine particles.
