U.S., Russia agree on full coordination for North Korea's FFVD
  • 6 years ago
The U.S. and Russia have agreed to fully cooperate to achieve North Korea's final, fully verified denuclearization.
While working-level talks between Pyeongyang and Washington have not yet begun on a second summit between their respective leaders,... there's speculation Kim Jong-un may visit Russia soon.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
Washington's envoy in charge of North Korean affairs, Stephen Biegun met on Tuesday with Russia's Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergey Ryabkov and Igor Morgulov in Moscow.
The U.S. State Department said the two touched upon issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula as well as those related to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and arms control.
It explained the two sides agreed on full coordination to bring about North Korea's final, fully verified denuclearization, or FFVD.
A department spokesperson said the talks were warm, friendly and they explored a number of areas of cooperation.
Biegun's trip to Russia comes a week after his North Korean counterpart Choe Son-hui's visited the country.
While many speculate the two would meet soon in Austria for working-level talks,... there are reports North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may visit Russia in the coming weeks.
Quoting various sources,... the Russian Daily, Izvestiya, reports that Kim's visit may come before the U.S. midterm elections in early November.
