An earthquake of magnitude 5-point-9 struck off the northern coast of Haiti on Saturday afternoon local time.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was about 19 kilometers northwest of the coastal town of Port-de-Paix.
A Haitian government spokesperson told AFP that at least 11 people died, at least some of them in buildings that collapsed.
The police chief for the coastal town said more than 100 were injured.
The tremor was reportedly felt in the neighboring Dominican Republic.
The quake was one of the strongest in Haiti since 2010 when a magnitude 7 left about 300-thousand people dead.
