While the death toll from the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia has risen to more than one-thousand-four-hundred,... the hardest-hit island of Sulawesi has been hit with another natural disaster,... a volcanic eruption.
While the height of the volcanic ash column observed was around six-thousand meters above sea level,... the eruption is unlikely to directly affect the ongoing search operation... as the volcano is quite far from the city of Palu, which was most badly hit by the quake.
Meanwhile, the UN Central Emergency Response Fund has revealed it will allocate 15 million U.S. dollars to help the victims of the earthquake.
