The nation's military has formed its first-ever drone combat unit... using technology developed as part of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution.
An inaugural ceremony was held this morning for that unit at the headquarters of the Third ROK Army, located in Yongin,... Gyeonggi-do Province.
The drone battalion will start with about 80 members,... but the goal is to expand it gradually until 2021,... when every military unit in the nation will have a drone combat team.
The unit has several kinds of drones, including artillery position reconnaisance drones, portable recon drones and attack drones.
Its commander, Colonel Kim Young-kyun..., said the unit will help lead the Moon Administration's ongoing military reforms... aimed at making the nation's armed forces stronger and more efficient.
